                                                                                 HONORING CEREMONY

Sealing and Closing your Birth Experience

A sealing ceremony is based on the idea of “closing” the birth process. Pregnancy and birth are all about opening. We open up our bodies, minds, spirits, and hearts for our new babies. After birth, the body remains “open” and the idea with sealing the birth experience is to psychologically and physically “close” the body and help the mother integrate her birth experience into the wholeness of who she is. It is part of her “return” to the non-pregnant state and it is transition commonly overlooked by modern culture and sometimes by women themselves.Iit can be done at any point, preferably within the first 40 days.

Relax in a Malaysian Healing Bath with therapeutic flowers and herbs while you reflect on your birth journey.   Your birth story is scribed in a beautiful keepsake journal as we share postpartum tea.  We then spend a time in meditation before  a beautiful heated tuck in as you bring in all the threads of yourself after birth,  with warmed flax packs to close the womb and a blessing to honor this birth journey. Bringing warmth and healing, softening the transition into motherhood.  $135.00

Add a Malaysian Bellybind & wrapping session for $95.00.  Total for Honoring Ceremony & Bind: $230.00

Additional herb satchels for hot stone press OR Belly-firming paste: $15.00

Moxibustion for womb healing: $35.00 per session in our office.  3 sessions for $100.00

*Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese healing technique involving burning the herb mugwort to facilitate healing.  Practiced in Asia for thousands of years.  Used on acupuncture points to warm and move blood and energy- Chi, aiding the healing process after birth.

Moxabustion  is for postpartum women starting at four or five days following childbirth and in the weeks to follow to aid in postpartum recovery. It aims to replenish the Qi (energy) and blood that is lost with pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnancy and childbirth places a huge strain on the body as it uses up Qi and blood. Chinese medicine holds the theory that depletion of the body’s resources of Qi and blood are the root cause of low milk supply, postpartum depression, prolapse, fatigue and insomnia after birth.

Benefits of  moxibustion after birth:
-Replenish Qi helping to improve energy levels
-Benefits the immune system
-Nourishes Blood helping to prevent and treat postpartum depression
-Benefit Iron levels aiding postpartum blood loss.
-Boost milk supply.
-Treat and prevent prolapse.

Let me introduce you to the Art of Sacred Postpartum Care

Every woman goes through a tremendous effort in birthing her baby.  In today's society she is expected to bounce right back to her previous tasks.  It's natural for others to gush over the new baby, but what about your healing? You have organs that have shifted out of place, your body has been through the huge task of growing and birthing your child.  Nutrition has been used by 2 lives and your mind has wrapped itself around the preparation and responsibility of creating, growing and delivering your babe. Being a Mother Roaster equips me to assist healing your journey using natural therapies, heat in different forms, sealing and closing this chapter.  Herbs can decrease healing time of organs from 6 months to 6 weeks.  Nourishing foods, honoring ceremonies & a variety of practices are just a few ways to bring healing and closure to this birth.  Reclaim the beauty and glory of birth, a sorely neglected topic in our society.  I'm determined to change the mindset of our community and bring health, celebration and dignity to mamas.

Myths of Motherhood

Our Society has fostered many myths of motherhood that can affect the development of postpartum depression.  Myths that influence a woman's expectations of birth and motherhood.  Myths like you should be happy after baby arrives, that' you'll be naturally intuitive, the "perfect baby" myth, that the father will be equally involved or you will be the "perfect" mother.

At the delivery of your baby, hormones drop abruptly.  The sudden drop of estrogen, progesterone, endorphins and other hormones may trigger depression. Exhaustion, needy babies, family relationships are just a few things that put extra stress on new mothers.  Loss of freedom & identity are challenges.

The "Baby Blues" occurs in up to 80% of new mothers.  If these feelings persist more than a couple weeks, and maybe even intensify, then it is considered

Postpartum Depression.

Sometimes you may need further assistance in dealing with life after birth.

Herbs for Peri-Steam

Bengkung belly binding can be an important part of recovering from childbirth. Using cotton, muslin, or silk fabric your abdomen is wrapped snuggly in order to support your body’s natural healing process. Belly binding has traditionally been used to provide the postpartum body the support to assist the abdominal wall muscle retraction, improves posture, support loosened ligaments and provide support to the torso while vital organs return to their pre-pregnancy size and position. Wrapping can be done over your clothes or under using an under wrap.

There are several benefits of postpartum belly binding, including:

Repairing the diastasis recti - According to the Mayo Clinic, during pregnancy, the growing uterus stretches the muscles in the abdomen. This can cause the two large parallel bands of muscles that meet in the middle of the abdomen to separate — a condition called diastasis recti or diastasis recti abdominis. The Malaysian technique of Bengkung binding is helpful in bringing those bands of muscles back together in order for the Linea Alba, or connective tissue, to strengthen and support the muscles more effectively.

Pelvic Support - In addition to supporting the abdominal area, belly binding also provides support for your pelvic area. During childbirth, a woman’s body produces something called Relaxin, which helps her body physically become looser and more flexible in order to birth her baby. When binding postpartum, we take advantage of the Relaxin in the body by putting pressure on the hips and pelvis to go back to its pre pregnancy state more easily. This also helps to firm and support the areas that are still loose from pregnancy as the Relaxin reduces in the body.

Lower back support - The Bengkung method of binding is also helpful in supporting the lower back. It is well known that the abdominal muscles have a direct relationship to the back muscles. According to“…The abdominal muscles and back muscles are key components of [a] muscular network, and provide the strength to keep the body upright and for movement. When these core muscles are in poor condition, additional stress is applied to the spine as it supports the body, and back injury or back pain is more likely”.  With the abdominal support, the back is supported as well. Having lower back support helps to reduce strain and improves posture.

Emotional/Spiritual benefits - Women enjoy the process of taking care of their bodies and being able to focus on their recovery and the healing process. They are able to really take that time out each day for self-care and get in touch with their new self and their new role as a mother. Many women use binding as a spiritual or symbolic closure of their pregnancy; especially if they didn’t receive the birth they envisioned.

Vaginal Steaming After Birth Is the Time-Honored Standard for Postpartum Care

by Keli Garza of Steamy Chicks 10/2017

Vaginal steaming--an ancient women’s health practice that involves sitting over warm steaming herbs--is found in many places throughout the world. Current research finds that it is a traditional practice in, at least, 28 countries worldwide. Although steaming varies from place to place it is universally used after giving birth. Most often administered by midwives, the popularity of postpartum steaming isn’t without good reason.

In the United States postpartum care is minimal. It often involves 24-hours or less at the hospital and then a standard 6-week checkup. In that 6-week time period the mom does not receive any medical assistance with recovery. During this time her body is tasked with closing the vaginal canal and cervix; her uterus is to clear out all of the leftover lochia (pregnancy matter) and reduce down to its normal size; her abdominal organs return into place allowing her elimination functions (urine and bowel movements) to normalize; delivery tears and stitches (if any) have to heal; the abdominal skin is to retract and the leftover pregnancy weight is supposed to shed. Common complications include postpartum contractions, painful stitches or an infection. Needless to say, recovery can be daunting, especially when moms do not receive much instruction on what recovery entails or how to help along the process. In many cases, full recovery never happens.

According to acupuncturists Daoshing Ni and Jessica Chen in Sitting Moon: A Guide to Natural Rejuvenation After Pregnancy a significant amount of women’s health concerns including depression, headaches, prolapsed organs, incontinence and menstrual complications occur because of improper postpartum care.

Considering the minimal attention mom’s receive after hospital births, it’s pretty significant to discover that vaginal steaming is a postpartum treatment that’s been used worldwide for ages. Commonly administered by midwives, the practice of steaming appears to have fallen into obscurity as male doctors took over an area of medicine historically attended to by females. Here is the rest of the article:

Used for centuries in many cultures for toning, nourishing and healing

Vaginal steaming brings heat and healing to the womb.  Using specific herbs, the steam brings fresh oxygenated blood, shrinking swollen tissues.  Moist heat opens pores allowing medicinal benefits of the herbs to have direct affect on the reproductive system.  Enhances healing of minor cuts and tears.  Tightens pelvic floor muscles, reduces vaginal infections & itchiness.  Cleanses and deodorizes your yoni.  Vaginal tissue is one of the most absorbent of the entire body.  Steaming promotes healthy fertility, regulating menses and supports healthy reproductive system encouraging healthy fertility.  If you have had problems in any of these areas, this may be an answer to a neglected subject.
